Tame that mane!!! Naturally!!!

My Daughters have gorgeous, thick curly hair. Thick being the operative word. Like I said their hair is beautiful, but very time consuming to do only because it is soooo thick and sooo curly. But I don't mind. I love doing their hair. The whole process usually takes an entire day or two if my back starts acting up. Taking hair down, washing it, drying it and then braiding it. Oh times 2. So I usually start on a Saturday afternoon, take down, wash, dry and then braid on Sunday. They are very good and watch movies the entire time. No biggie.
But there are times (like the first day of school or picture day) when they want to get fancy and want me to straighten it. Not too big of a deal, expect if one drop of water touches it, poooof... back to their fro they go. lol

But I'm always looking and trying out new products on their hair and mine :) On one of my shopping trips to Sally's I was looking for a product for myself that I'd been reading about, Moroccan Argan Oil. I found 'One n' Only Argan Oil' and 'One n' Only Hydrating Mask'. I bought both and tried it out on my hair that night. WOW!!! My hair felt amazing! It was silky smooth and so so shiny. I couldn't believe how beautiful my hair looked and felt. I immediately had to try it on the girls hair.

Freshly washed

Dried using blow dryer

Flat ironed... And the end result!!!

Big Sissy after hers was straighten. (Forgot to take a before picture :( I just wanted to finish lol)

BIG difference huh! I couldn't believe how soft and straight it got. What did I do? Ok so I washed their hair normally with normal shampoo. I personally use TRESemme - Deep Cleanse (for hair prone to build-up). Then I put in the hydrating mask and left it in their hair for about an hour and a half (maybe longer, I was trying to get dinner started) with a shower cap on. After I knew their hair had absorbed the mask, I rinsed it out. I towel dried their hair and put in the Argan Oil and combed it out. Then I blew it out. I sectioned their hair starting from the back and put a small amount of Argan Oil in my palm and then in their hair, then flat ironed the section. I continued this process on their entire head which took about 1 1/2- 2 hours for each. I'm still amazed at how beautiful and silky smooth it came out. The girls loved it!

I do use heat protection before I blow dry and I do not straighten it too often as I do not want to damage their hair. But When I do straighten it, I always use these products and it comes out great every time. Let me know what you think or if there are any products that you use and love. I'd love to try them out. Thanks!!!

  1. Our girls have the same hair. I been taming these thick manes for 13 years. I use a normal shampoo & conditioner, afterwards I use Fructis Leave in Conditioner. Works great for natural styles I try not to blow dry their hair anymore. Because it is a long process I too break it up into 2 days, wash, comb, 4-6 chunky braids & air dry. Next day unbraid apply product & style. Much easier on my back.
